About Us

Head Teacher Mrs L Appleby Chair Of Governors - Mr N WilkinsonClerk To Governors - Mrs G Whitehouse

Little Common has a Governing body of 20 members, made up of seven Parent Governors, five Community, four LEA, two teaching staff, one general staff and the current Head. The Business Manager reports on financial issues and the Deputy attends most meetings reporting back on curriculum matters, school improvement planning and policy update. We have an active body of people from a good cross-section of the local community. Our Governors have a wide range of experience including Education, Social Services, SEN, Police, local council and many other businesss sectors. All are driven with a core desire to make Little Common School continue to evolve and provide the best education and experience for our children.Like many other Governing bodies, up until a couple of years ago our meetings were structured as a series of sub-committees covering areas of Finance, Personnel and Curriculum - and these termly meetings would be followed by a meeting of the full Governing body.During one of our annual Saturday training mornings we were presented with the idea of working in a whole new way.As a result, the sub-committees followed by whole Governing body meetings were replaced with 6 to 7 meetings per academic year on a full Governing body basis. We regulary benefit from presentations and briefings from both outside people and staff within the school. For example: Big Writing, healthy eating, primary framework and foundation stage curriculum. We have also been able to discuss other areas in significantly more detail - such as the results from the bi-annual parents' questionnaire, pupil performance and the school's SEF.We have a very good and close working relationship with the Head. One key area for the Governing body will be how this relationship evolves and changes with a new Head Teacher. Please see some examples of minutes from recent meetings:
